My tips
Ratingen & Kreis Mettmann
- Sights worth seeing in Ratingen include the historic city centre with the town hall, the market square and towers from the 15th and 16th centuries.
- The Upper Silesian Regional Museum in Ratingen-Hösel is quite special – it provides insights into the history and culture of the Silesian regions over an area of 1,600 m2.
- Also visit the Cromford Textile Factory Museum in Ratingen, where fully automated cotton spinning machines take visitors back to the time of industrialisation in the 18th century.
- Go back millions of years in the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann to immerse yourself in the history of mankind. From there a path leads to the site where the Neanderthal was found.

Sights in Düsseldorf
When I’m in Düsseldorf, I enjoy walking along the Rhine where the pleasure boats depart. Incidentally, the famous “longest bar in the world” with all manner of restaurants is right next to the Rhine promenade. In recent years, the MedienHafen with its striking modern architecture has developed into a popular district. A classic, on the other hand, is the Königsallee, or “Kö” for short: the upmarket shopping street in Düsseldorf. In the south of the city is the beautiful Benrath Castle, which I also recommend for an excursion.
Tips for sightseeing
The Ruhr metropolis Essen
Take a boat trip on Lake Baldeney in Essen and visit the chic Krupp Villa with its well-kept hill park. Would you like to experience a little more of the Ruhrpott region’s history? Then visit the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and take a guided tour of the coking plant’s production facilities. The area where the miners once toiled is now a melting pot for culture and sport, an impressive testament to the transformation of the region.
The most beautiful golf courses
Golf in the Rhineland
Just 1.5 km from the hotel, Golfclub Hösel offers two 18-hole championship golf courses. The south course is somewhat flat, and the north course a little hilly. Why not play on both courses! Want more golf courses? The Golfclub Grevenmühle in Ratingen also has an 18-hole championship course. Not far away you will find other golf clubs with interesting golf areas in Essen and Düsseldorf, e.g. next to the Baldeneysee in Essen. An 18-hole course in Mettmann invites you to put your golfing prowess on show.Out and about in nature
Hiking around Ratingen
Ramble in the green oasis around Ratingen, e.g. in the Ratinger Stadtwald Süd-West landscape conservation area or walk the 4.5 km long Grüner See circular trail in the Volkardey recreation park. Other top hiking tips include the Niederbergbahn panorama trail and the Neanderland Steig trail. Tours along the Way of St. James around Ratingen are also popular.

Cycling between the Rhine & Ruhr
Cycling in the Rhineland
You can start the 40 km long circular tour “NATUR-TOUR” directly from Ratingen-Hösel. You will ride both in the Lower Rhine plain and in the Niederbergisches Hügelland.
If you love cycling on beautiful paths, you should definitely plan the Niederbergbahn Panorama cycle track. This 40 km long cycle route, which runs from Essen Kettwig to Haan on a former railway line, can be reached directly from the hotel via the streets “Am Rennbaum” and “Brockhorstweg”.
Trade fair cities Essen & Düsseldorf
Trade fairs in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region
The major trade fair cities of Essen and Düsseldorf are within easy reach of our hotel. Highlights for trade visitors and interested parties at Messe Düsseldorf include boot Düsseldorf, ProWein, MEDICA, Drupa, the K plastics trade fair and the Caravan Salon. Messe Essen is popular with gamers when the latest board games are presented at the Spiel trade fair. The top trade fairs also include the Fahrradmesse bicycle fair, the Essen Motor Show and IPM – the world’s leading trade fair for horticulture.
